Description
NOTE: For best image quality please select Glossy or better paper, not the default Archival Matte. The original wolf painting was painted with oils, which give deep, rich tones. Better papers will give you more vibrant colors and contrast that more closely represent the original oil colors than the default choice of Archival Matte paper. So be sure to change your paper selection when ordering!
Original painting: Oil on canvas.
Two wolves on night watch duty, guarding their territory for the rest of the wolf pack sleeping blissfully in a nearby den. One wolf keeps a sharp eye on things while the other wolf dozes briefly. Soon they'll switch places, taking turns keeping watch throughout the night. A full moon casts bright light on the wolves and snow.
This wolf painting was inspired by photos I took of wolves on a trip to Montana. The time of day was actually morning. One wolf was dozing blissfully in the warm summer sun. But with the other wolf standing in what looked like a guarding stance, it seemed like he was watching over the other wolf while she slept. A night scene seemed like the perfect setting for this pair as I imagined the alpha wolf male and female outside their den, standing guard duty over the rest of the pack. The snow helped brighten the scene so it so it didn't appear dark and spooky.
